It’s that time of year again where the winter clothes are starting to get too hot for the spring weather. Might I add, it’s almost my favorite time of year. Sign me up for warm weather and more sunlight throughout the day!
Just like many of you soon I will start to clean out things room by room and piece by piece. I am guilty of keeping things longer than their expiration date so hopefully this post will keep both you and me on track as this season change is upon us. Follow along on this post to kickstart your Spring cleaning into high gear!
For this post I wanted to highlight the 3 areas that I typically find we accumulate the most “junk”. If you guessed, the closets, the kitchen, and the garage..you my friend are correct! I find that we just keep stuffing until we can’t anymore. A terrible habit that we haven’t chilled on yet. One day I’m going to make it to a minimalistic lifestyle, give me a couple years lol! A girl can dream.
I hope to share a couple of things that’ll help you. Let’s dive in.
Target These 3 Areas First!
- Closet(s) – This is the heavy hitter of the group. My weakness is I have so many clothes that are still brand new. Things I either bought as goal clothes or items that I plan to wear for special occasions. I’ve started to get realistic with myself, if I can’t fit it and I’ve had it for a specific amount of time I put it in the giveaway pile. If I’ve recently bought it and I can see myself wearing it within the next month, I’ll keep it and make a point to wear it. This goes for jeans, blouses, and dresses the most. I know everybody is different so the best thing to do is come up with a method and rhyme and reason for keeping things or letting them go AND sticking with it! If I really want to clean out, I’ll ask my husband or sisters, lol they’ll always keep it real with me. Can’t go wrong with getting a couple of people to help that’ll be like girl, time to let that go! Haha!
- Kitchen/Pantry – I think the kitchen is one of the easiest things to clean out. If you’ve got plates and cups with knicks or scratches on them, I’m giving you permission now to go ahead and throw those away. All those old vases from flowers you’ve been given or bought, go ahead, and give some of those away. All those plastic cups you’ve accumulated from weddings and other events go on ahead and toss those too!For the pantry it’ll be even easier, start pulling things out and check the date. If it’s expired, you know what to do! Our biggest thing we tend to hold on to is hamburger and hotdog buns and tortillas. We clean out our fridge weekly, I really just need to add the pantry to that schedule. It’d probably keep us from wasting food.
- Garage – Alright now I know this won’t apply to everyone, especially if you’re in an apartment. In that case, shift this to another space you have and use the same tactics. Our garage is easily over filled with toddler toys, furniture, workout equipment, and business equipment. I joke that we’ve got 18 businesses running out of the garage but none of them are bringing in any money. I’m both laughing and crying at the same time over this. It can be intimidating tackling the big stuff, but I’ve got a hack for you! Junk Queen TX will come and haul away all of the stuff you don’t want to mess with. And even better for those heavy duty jobs, whether you’re doing a remodel or redoing a large space in your home there’s also Dumpster Rental Cedar Hill TX who can accommodate your needs. There’s nothing better than taking the hard work off yourself!
For the garage, or any space the best thing to do is take it one step at a time. It’s easy to become overwhelmed and all you need to do to conquer this is plan and stick to it. For me I start with a specific space and once I’m done with that little spot I’ll move on to the next. The goal is to go far and slow rather than fast and burn out.
The best part about all of this is once you get on a roll, you’re going to start feeling relief and it’ll keep you motivated to keep going. I know I feel a weight off when I clear out a space and open an area. The trick is keeping it clean and not letting clutter take back over. Wish me luck! Good luck to you as well as we take on our Spring clean outs!

Yes, to all of this! I’m guilty of allowing things to pile up in nearly every room and mostly in the garage (oof!). I’ve been needing to schedule a dumpster rental, so thank you for putting this bug in my ear. Mental notes on these great tips have been made, and I’m applying them this weekend as I begin my Spring cleaning. As always, thank you for the gems 🙂
